I was born a Muslim but gave my life to follow Jesus.

My first love was Christmas. As a child, I was attracted to the Christmas lights and songs sung by our Christian neighbors. But my parents prohibited me from celebrating with them. In secret, I painted Christmas tree cards...

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are you seeking asylum as a refugee?

I am seeking refuge because when I converted from Islam to Christianity, I was tortured and beaten for my religion. My attackers threatened to harm me again. I fear that if I return to my home country, I will be murdered by extremist Muslims.

What is your current status?

Currently, I am an asylum seeker vetted by the United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHCR). I am living in an undisclosable host country.

Can you legally work in your host country?

No, my host country prohibits asylum seekers from obtaining employment until they have received their green card. It may take years for the government to process my refugee application. I was warned that if I work, I will be sent back to the home I fled from.

How have you been financially supported as an asylum seeker thus far?

I have received a grant thanks to the generosity of a nonprofit organization. This grant will expire on January 1st, 2024. Therefore, I am searching for alternative means of financial support to sustain my living expenses from January 1st 2024 onward until I either return to my home country or become a refugee in Australia.

Do you have a deadline to find asylum?

Yes. My current host country is shutting down their UNHCR office. They ask all asylum seekers to find refuge in another country, because they don’t have enough money to help refugees.

I was asked to find refuge in another country by December 2024, or else, my host country may send me back to the place I fled from.

Why are you applying to become a refugee in Australia?

I have an opportunity to apply to become a refugee in Australia. My application is currently being processed and could take up to two years to review.

There is no guarantee that Australia will accept me, as there are limited spaces for refugees. In that case, I will apply to an alternative Western country that protects religious freedom.

How much will it cost to become a refugee in Australia?

At this stage, the exact costs are uncertain. I may need to pay for my application, legal fees, flight ticket, and initial expenses. A consultation with an immigration lawyer estimated that I may need to pay up to 30,000 USD for a lawyer.
